Taking a Langkawi-registered vehicle to the mainland requires checking its actual Customs status as well as booking transport. Item 14 of the Customs Duties (Exemption) Order 2017 provides conditional temporary movement, including no more than 90 days in any one year. Confirm the car’s eligibility, current Customs requirements, security, insurance and return arrangements before travel.

Understand the conditional 90-day provision.
Item 14 of the Customs Duties (Exemption) Order 2017 concerns a vehicle registered in, transported from and subsequently returned to Langkawi or Labuan. Conditions include JPJ registration, Customs registration when transported, landing at a Customs port, the annual time limit, presentation on return and security determined by Customs.
Confirm how your prior trips are counted and the return date applicable to the proposed journey. Maintain the documents and movement record for the actual car. If your vehicle has a different duty-paid status, do not assume this conditional arrangement is necessarily the right one.
For a permanent mainland move, obtain a separate import/duty assessment. A temporary-movement arrangement is not a substitute for permanently clearing the vehicle.

A bank guarantee is not the transport fee.
Security for a vehicle’s return is distinct from ferry or carrier charges. Langkawi Auto Express’s notices tell luxury-vehicle owners to arrange their bank guarantee or Customs bond. Ask Customs and the relevant financial institution what applies to the specific vehicle and trip.
Distinguish the guarantee amount, bank charges and any collateral requirement. Do not assume a standard percentage or that a refundable commitment has no effect on available funds. Jackshen’s transport enquiry does not constitute bank-guarantee approval or issuance.

Coordinate the movement around the car.
Start with vehicle and document details.
Share make, model, registration status, current location and intended destination. Confirm who is responsible for each clearance and whether original documents are needed.
Agree the handling requirements.
Flag low ground clearance, modifications, starting instructions and whether the car can move under its own power. Ask what transport arrangement can accommodate it.
Confirm dates with a margin.
Ferry schedules and document cutoffs matter. The operator’s published notices refer to advance document submission and tide-dependent sailings. Confirm the current requirements for the actual booking.
Plan insurance and handovers.
Clarify transit cover, vehicle condition records, who may drive or load the car, and the collection/delivery process.
Complete the return plan.
Coordinate the return within the permitted period, the required Customs presentation and onward storage in Langkawi.

Does the 90-day allowance restart for every trip?
No. The provision refers to no more than 90 days in any one year, subject to its conditions. Confirm trip accounting and remaining permission with Customs.
Does a ferry ticket mean the car is cleared?
No. Transport booking and regulatory clearance are separate. Complete the requirements for the actual vehicle before departure.
Can I move a stored car to the mainland permanently?
Permanent import is a separate matter requiring a current assessment and any applicable duties, taxes and procedures. Storage alone does not establish permission or a future exemption.
Can Jackshen arrange my bank guarantee?
